Genetic predisposition can attribute to our anxiety. 

Epigenetics are the study of our ancestors DNA. While only 5% of our reactions or responses affect our actions, they are deep seated emotions (anxiety, depression, …) that are often attributed to past lives that are inescapable. Deepak Chopra’s latest book highlights the effect of our choices in life. 
In 1998 I came to the conclusion after being told by Sylvia Browne that past lives or not, I believe THIS is my Last life. She didn’t believe in the past life theory, nor does Deepak. In fact, they come from 2 different perspectives and now agree on this: Some of our memories are not our own, but the DNA inherited from our ancestors … 7 generations back. 

  
Stress can also created by finances – good and bad.  Sudden windfalls or loss of a job create the same stress. What differs is our reaction. 

I’ve been known to work difficult and challenging deadlines and pulling them off magically. It’s exciting projects like this that actually can cause the most collateral damage with a family. Similar to Ariana Huffington’s story who nearly worked herself to death, she also learned the value of rest. Who has time for rest? Vacations can be more exhausting than work! In my case, the past 7 yrs, especially the last 5, have been extremely tight – juggling long periods of unemployment between spouses, multiple jobs, going back to school – these can all add stress to relationships, especially within family. Owning my own business gives me job security and time freedom. 
Since the 2008 Recession, life changed drastically for most in the U.S. For us, we rode it out working for a client in Oklahoma City just before it hit our hometown hard. I continued my commute to Big Bear keeping my design business and property management profitable. Coming back two years later, we still had a house but now saw a need to relocate. 
Triggers? Different for everyone! Know thyself. It helps a lot to know your weaknesses in order to be better prepared. Think of all senses. Is Work a trigger? Is it the load (55 hrs/wk) or is it your boss? Maybe the light or smells? 
Anxiety with New Places or People? If it’s an irrational fear, my biggest and best tool was to (finally) say YES! for a measured amount of time and suck it up. For Shonda Rhimes she believes being your own person requires saying yes even when you’re not expected to. For me, I started with one week and watched it expand to a month, a year, and now a lifetime. Liberating! This truly gave me more confidence to do more scary crazy things I would usually avoid. 
Does Time heal all? Well no, not always. Sometimes Father Time needs some help. Enlist Mother Nature by all means, and don’t forget yourself. Only you are truly responsible for every reaction and subsequent life choices. Anxiety can be circumstantial or chronic. Who hasn’t experienced some stress around finances in the past 7 years? It’s been quite a test of character for most of us. Anxiety can cause one to age prematurely causing unwanted dis-ease let alone aesthetic concerns of biting nails and chewing on your lip.  
Treatment Options

Medication vs Meditation 

Do a cost benefit analysis – is a dry mouth worth minimizing 4 panic attacks a day? Or would ‘talk therapy’ help in the time that you could use PRN instead. (Self) Hypnosis and Meditation have been a blessing when changes need to be be made easing the transition in my life. I personally am trained in Hypnosis by my own dear mother, a clinical psychotherapist certified in hypnotherapy, who also used journaling as a personal escape hatch in her stressful field of psychiatry. Although rewarding, her inability to share her own experiences due to her license car restrictions. In fact, much of this book is indeed straight from my own journal. (See Facebook group, Happiness Handbook for the real journal). Spending time in nature is uplifting for many reasons. In fact, even a landscape picture or painting in your work space can aide in deeper breathing.

Is this your big visual of your future? All kidding aside, let’s just put it out there – I think we’ve all been there a time or two, idk? But I’m here to tell you, whatever you can imagine, you can manifest! Easier said than done so read on and decide for yourself. I believe in you – you’re here for a reason. You’ll hear about my Why a bit later.

Body by K has been a heartfelt connection of the Spirit with the BodyMind in every aspect from its inception in 2001. Hi, I’m Kimi, the Founder of Body by K, CHHP, ADDP (and a PhD Scholarship student in Naturopathic Medicine! Proof it’s never too late to educate- WHOOT!). My background is in Public Health (breast cancer research at USC & City of Hope) and I happen to be a yoga teacher, as well! Although feng shui may come up in this forum, I focus energetic transformation on homes as well in my design firm, Elements Design where we practice LEED Green Design and energetic use of space and sustainable living. I love what I do so much, my posse and I have decided to share a Primary Food system with you in a big way. I hope you not only learn something helpful, but have fun along the way. This group you have become a part of is a specialized extension for the actual elite personal or professional practioner who expect more – inspiration, support, knowledge, motivation, balance, collaboration and joy in success. How many of us are ‘living the dream’ inside and out with a long term plan of sustainability? Are you confident you can face the challenges ahead with exuberance in the future – jumping out of your skin excitement? Are you ready to shed your tired outgrown ideas for a new paradigm that is not only #doable, but preferred? I don’t believe in leaving our loved ones behind in this journey, since what is success without our loved ones as happy and loved as possible? Yes, bringing those of your family and friends along for the ride is essential – it’s up to you and your family exactly in what manner.

This Holistic Health Program (workshops, online, one on one, corporations – please see Flyer in Files on prices and times) practices drugless interventions without diagnosis, or labels. I feel that these labels are limiting and meant only as a temporary starting point as a matter of reference. I admit, it can be reassuring at times to just be told what the problem is and what to do, right? The question is – then what? what do you do with this frightening diagnosis and even gloomier prognosis? In truth, there may be a point when even a strong independent woman like you might want someone to just hold your hand to reassure and guide you into your own truth – that’s basically what I do. In fact, in time you’ll find your simple solution within my guided protocol, guaranteed. As long as you do your part, you will be rewarded with a renewed vitality that energizes and calms you throughout your day – without caffeine or other impulsive food choices. Freedom is a wonderful gift to give yourself – the side effects in this program will lead you to stable hormones and a flatter belly with the simple tweak of your diet and lifestyle.

Now, would you really allow a relative stranger to your body (MD) lead you, or a loved one, blindly through the maze of options without choices that are fully discussed, weighed and measured? We are talking about your health – and without it my friends, we have absolutely nothing. I’d suggest another approach – a sort of patient advocate, or Health Coach as it is also known. My own story strongly correlates with this scenario when my health was in grave jeopardy after 2 car accidents three years ago. I was given only six months to live – a diagnosis I refused to believe, but the seed had already been planted. I didn’t have anyone to turn to for fear of overwhelming my family and friends, or worse pitied. I gave up, literally stayed I bed for 3 days crawling out only when necessary. I was in excellent shape, great health, a family and thriving business – you know the dance we women do. I was pathetic with no where to go but up – literally. A miracle was mercifully negotiated between G*d and I of which as long as I am alive, I will tell my story to whomever listens. My end of the bargain was to give up the pity party and reach out to others. The furthest thing from my mind – why would anyone listen to the advice of someone who was on their death bed? Well, of course people do but what did I have to say? Too wrapped up in myself, I continued to be inspired not only by my son, but a dear friend who had recently passed with such grace and dignity it basically lifted me out of my pity party to heed her calling. Basically, unless that person (me now) had the faith and conviction to stand alone and be heard, this true story would have stopped then. Long story short (to be shared later), let me share my excitement for you now as I present what I learned and experienced beyond my wildest dreams! The road was long and difficult is an understatement and without the support of some very special people, I wouldn’t be here today. I call them my angels of mercy and will be forever in their debt. You know who you are and I love you with all my heart.

Lacking a graceful segue, let’s get to business. Certified Holistic Health Coaches (CHHP) have a range of backgrounds that apply to many varied conditions facing the population and are fast becoming the choice for smart patients and their loved ones. Although the role of a CHHC is ideally preventative, our healthcare system has turned into one of reaction rather than pro-action. CHHPs are preferred by holistic minded MDs and DOs, Chiropractors and PAs, as that personable resource to fill in the gaps. Getting to know you, really listen to you, and serve your best interests not excluding but alongside of your own family physician. you will then be empowered through a natural process of allowing the body to do as it’s intended (to heal) with as little interference or complication possible. CHHPs are trained to work closely with the allopathic field to coordinate optimal and best practices that suit your particular needs.

As a CHHP, I am also very capable of referring out, when necessary, a professional service to suit your needs. Even routine tests that are alternatives to expensive lab work requiring a prescription are available if you are without insurance. At times, these tests (I.e., saliva) are more accurate, so ask. For example, my holistic speciality is the endocrine system where I believe that not only the body’s thermostat is regulated, fertility flourishes, optimal brain and organ function is determined, major glands are in alignment with our chakras not to mention responsibility for our unique beauty. Our body and mind is nourished and flourishes while aging gracefully when the time comes. Foggy thinking, irritability even depression and sleeplessness are related in their very basis to a glandular foundation, either by a nutritional defiance (genetic or drug mugger), aging, stress our lack of downtime, diet and subconscious thought patterns brought on in our DNA, childhood or traumatic experiences. Anti-aging is a misnomer – the entire world – trees, mountains, animals – age as we must also. To defy such laws of nature is to bring only deep disappointment in the end, at best. Aging gracefully into a life of fulfillment at every stage is the ideal goal. To finish strong with minimal evasiveness and costly interventions is not only possible, but again #doable with the help and expertise of an expert CHHP.

Staying in your prime isn’t so difficult once you adjust your expectations to an optimal reality – become the best you possibly can at any age, radiant and confidently. Body by K, and myself Kimi Lebens, will work as close with you as you wish. Anything is possible, even miracles, as long as you’re willing to give something up. (And trust me, that ‘something’ is probably that security blanket you don’t need anymore anyway! Hello?)

Health, Love & Spirituality

Is illness really an “opportunity for enlightenment”? According to Lissa Rankin, MD, the answer is yes.

Rankin, an Integrative Nutrition visiting teacher, says that our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs affect every cell in our body, and that Western medicine’s denial of the mind-body connection has led to a society in which prescriptions and surgery prevail over the body’s ability to heal itself. In this video, she explains exactly how mind-body medicine works, why Primary Foods like fulfilling relationships can “make the body ripe for miracles,” and what predatory tigers have to do with it all.
Many in the modern medical world are skeptical of the idea of incorporating spirituality into medicine. Watch the video below, then let us know what you think about these two different philosophies.

Burnout Protocol …

…Let’s get physical

There is still time for lots of healing potential. After consulting with your doctor and health coach, consider the Burnout Protocol if you’re feeling burnt, fatigued, mentally fuzzy or lots of generalized pain. For example, counterintuitive as it may sound, shoulder surgery clients will need to be released from PT to practice these moves. Even building the upper body too soon or too late can create complications. Upper body strength is needed in men and women to stabilize those ligaments and tendons supporting the entire shoulder area, including the neck. Plyometrics, or using your own body weight, is a great form of strength training in the beginning stages – weights only If allowed.
Now, if you’re at the stage of complete exhaustion (literally cannot get out of bed)and cannot get out of bed, consider seeing an Integrative DoctorBurnout protocol freebie

Adrenals, Cortisol, Thyroid, oh my!

This is where yoga comes in as our special presentation. In fact, chanting/singing (certain sound waves – NAAM – are very healing to our bodies when practiced in particular ways that are fun and easy). While full breathing is optimal to the adrenal’s healing, bringing a seance of intention with every breath magnify so many benefits in a synchronistic manner. It’s simple – to loosen and warm up the body, try some cardio first to warm up – 5-10 minutes is adequate. Although dancing really is thought of as a social event, I enjoy turning on a playlist and dancing in the living room. (‘Happy’ from Pherrel is definitely on that list). Enjoy this because this what I like to call our childlike dolphin energy come into play. Have fun with this! Laughing is good for the soul and fights adrenal fatigue quickly. Try to get at least 10 min at a comfortable feel-good pace never over exerting. You can build up gradually to 30 minutes a day at 10 minute intervals. Strong research shows this to be as effective as 30 minutes in one shot. Practice 5 days minimum while listening to your body carefully.

Now on a mat (or even in bed still) lie in mountain relaxation pose (lie down with body in alignment yet relaxed – feet are ~6″ apart) to chill. Breathing deeply for a minute or two with eyes closed and focused between the brows. Listen to your mind/body – does it point out pain? Ask why and listen. Your body is your best barometer of your health – don’t delegate it to others without a full recon on your own.

Now exhale and bring arms up while bringing the right knee to the chest, holding with both arms on an exhale. While breathing evenly, bend knee to left with left hand (keeping hips down and in alignment). Reverse sides slowly. Still warming body up here. 🙂

Next on all fours, the cat/dog stretches the spine very slowly while breathing consciously. If feeling strong and there are no contra-indications, pick up the speed of alternating stretches while breathing strongly and a comfortable cadence as stamina allows. Be kind to yourself and respect your mind/body- each day will be a bit different. Enjoy the rhythmic movement and alternate with rotating shoulders and hips to finish this step.

Now this may be a challenge for some, but moving into down dog, (knees slightly bent and core strong) place your pituitary gland (ears) between your elbows and elongate the spine while stretching the hamstrings. Keep fingers and toes spread wide. Breathe. Eye position continues on the brow line between the eyes.

Almost there! Come up to standing mountain – feet shoulder width apart and arms up – stretching (breathe) to left, then to right slowly. Repeat to count of 4.

In standing mountain pose, now to unwind breathing fully in and out, relaxing your shoulders, bring oxygen into your lower belly for a count of 4 and exhale deflating your lungs fully for even longer and repeat this 3x to center and focus. Now

This simple but effective protocol can be done first thing in bed before getting up or after meditation/prayer. Think strong and lithe as a tiger/tigress while maintaining the swagger of the fun loving dolphin. This posture is very attractive and vibrates on a high level attracting our energy and thoughts bringing abundance and opening doors where there were only closed windows.

The art of NAAM and the energy of the Lion will be discussed in our next level of instruction. It is the second practice of three in the Beginner’s Burnout Protocol. As are most physical/mental/spiritual issues, change didn’t happen overnight. Neither will the ‘cure’ yet with discipline and some fun everyday, a bit will be chipped away here and there as needed replaced with self-control, vibrancy, healing and hope.

Our last free session we will discuss which foods are best to boost energy levels, accelerate learning processes and keep that edge at work, let alone getting frisky with your honey! I look forward to hearing from you all – feedback is most appreciated.
